Norfolk Honey Company based on the pristine semi sub-tropical Norfolk Island. We are family owned business specialising in the production and sale of 100% pure Norfolk Island honey and bee related products.
Norfolk Honey Company originally began in 2002, under the name Broad Arrow Apiaries operated by Allan Tomlinson. Allan, with the assistance of his two sons Karl & Ben, slowly grew the business from a few hives acquired from a retiring beekeeper, to small commercial operation with some 70+ active hives. In late 2005, due to unforeseen circumstances, Allan departed the Island forcing the sale of Broad Arrow Apiaries to beekeeper Steve Nobbs.
Steve came to beekeeping by default in the late 90's when his brother returned to Lord Howe Island, leaving him a few hives to look after. With the acquisition of hives and equipment from Allan, Steve's hobby instantly grew, later becoming Rocky Point Honey. Under Steve's guidance and passion the business continued to grow and diversify. Unfortunately in August 2018, Steve lost his battle with cancer and the reins were passed to his wife Becky, who tended the hives and continued the operation.
In Late 2019, Becky decided it was time for some 'spare time' and the sale of Rocky Point Honey finalised in 2020, where by Norfolk Honey Company was conceived under its new proprietor Ben Tomlinson.
The first record of honey bees on Norfolk Island was in 1844, where it was reported that there were 50 active hives.
It is thought these hives to have originated from those first brought to the fledgling colony in Sydney, NSW onboard the convict transport ship Isabella in March 1822.
Honey produced on Norfolk Island is unique by default given its locality in the South Pacific Ocean and the Island's flora.
Honey produced is small batch, and raw with individual hive location and seasonal flowers allowing a truly unique flavour. Typically Norfolk Island Honey will have a robust flavour comprising of earthy caramels with subtle floral and pine notes.
